Thank you so much to everyone who filled out the survey! I really appreciate all of your great feedback and the many kind words. (I’ll leave the survey open a little bit longer if there are still others who’d like to give their opinion. I really hope you will!)
There was one thing in the comments that particularly stuck out to me because a few people wrote nearly the same comment, which was something like this: “I don’t like the graphic animal abuse pictures and I click away without reading the post when I see them.” I wanted to specifically address this.
The reason I write this blog is to make people aware of what is happening in our food system and, unfortunately, the graphic pictures of animal abuse are what is happening. It is real, and it is rampant, and it is the reason I gave up meat. I personally found the animal abuse images so upsetting that it led me to vegetarianism, and I post the pictures hoping that it will lead you there as well.
I choose to include these images so that you will be aware of the effects your choices have. Clearly, if readers are clicking away because they find the images too disturbing, that just goes to show you that there are some serious problems with what is happening during meat production. And if you can’t stand you look at it, you probably shouldn’t contribute to it.
But if you’re clicking away from the pictures without reading my post, then you’re not getting the information that I’m trying to share. And that’s definitely not what I want. So, in the future I will try tone it down on the animal abuse images (or I’ll just put them at the end of the post so you don’t know they’re coming. *Muwhaha! (evil laugh)* Just kidding… maybe.)
To try to make up for the graphic images of the past, today I’m posting some adorable reasons not to eat meat:
(I took this last one at the Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary. The deer there are so cute!)

Wow, that thought never even crossed my mind. I suppose I’ve gotten used to graphic images, after watching/seeing things like “Earthlings,” and other industry videos, and knowing that you’re right – that IS the reality of the meat industry. I welcome the truth, and I want you to continue to post photos of the truth. If people are clicking away without reading the article… why? Because they can’t handle the reality of their own food choices? Well, that’s the whole point of your posting the pictures! I don’t understand why they would be on this blog to begin with if they aren’t expecting to see something like that.
Maybe I’m really missing the point.
Or maybe the solution is to put them at the end of the post with a warning… “Graphic content ahead”…? That way, those with weak stomachs can read the text and then choose to stop scrolling, and those of us who want the whole truth can continue to read the whole article.
