The lower animals, like man, manifestly feel pleasure and pain, happiness and misery. Happiness is never better exhibited than by young animals, such as puppies, kittens, lambs, etc., when playing together, like our own children. The fact that the lower animals are excited by the same emotions as ourselves is so well established, that it will not be necessary to weary the reader by many details. Terror acts in the same manner on them as on us, causing the muscles to tremble, the heart to palpitate, the sphincters to be relaxed, and the hair to stand on end.

Hey Angie, thanks for the comment on my veggie-vegan dilemma yesterday. Your suggestion is one that I have seriously considered, but living in London (UK), and not having a car, it would be hard for me to go direct to source. I guess I could research suppliers, but then even with the (relative) stringency of EU laws, terms such as “free range” are so vague and ill-defined that I might not be supporting chicken rearing that I think is ethical. Your suggestion is definitely one of the compromise positions I am debating though.
I must confess I’m not going to watch that video..
